The Golden Compass

My kids won't be seeing it. Jeffery Overstreet has lots of good stuff to say about the film (more, really, about Philip Pullman) here.

Exegetical Fallacies

Have you ever heard someone say, "The word translated as 'cheerful' in 'God loves a cheerful giver' (2 Cor 9:7) is hilaron, from which we get the English word 'hilarious?'" In Exegetical Fallacies

Bluetake i-Phono Headphones

I have been wanting these for a while, but was scared off by the price tag and the worry that Bluetooth is not quite up to the task of transmitting a good audio signal. My wonderful and generous wife took care of the former worry, getting me a set for my birthday.

The Choir: O How the Mighty Have Fallen

I've finally had time to listen to the new album (how old do you have to be to call it an “album” instead of a CD?), O How the Mighty Have Fallen. It is not a disappointment. Stylistically, this album fits right in with Flap Your Wings and Free Flying Soul.

David Bainbridge, Veil of Gossamer

I am really enjoying this CD. If you are a fan of Iona and like their extended instrumentals, this is for you. As you would expect, there is a strong Celtic feel to most of the songs. It is a very good "guitar" album; Bainbridge shows a lyrical style and has more space to let loose than he does with Iona in a more song-oriented context. Truthfully, I had no idea he was this good. The songs here are not just shredding over some chord changes, either. This is truly beautiful music.
